1. Introduction
Welcome to Cadence Beats. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy notice explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Cadence Beats mobile application, in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Data (Use and Access) Act (DUAA).

2. How We Use Your Data
We only collect the data absolutely necessary to provide you with the Cadence Beats service. This includes:
- Identity & Contact Data: Name and email address.
- Financial Data: Payment and billing information used for purchasing beats. (Note: We do not store full credit card details on our servers; these are securely handled by our payment processors).
- Fitness, Motion & Integration Data: Cadence Beats synchronizes audio playback with your physical activity. When you explicitly authorize us to connect with third-party platforms (Strava, Apple Music, and Spotify), we process the following data strictly to provide this core functionality:
- From Strava (Fitness & Motion): We receive specific, real-time or historical workout metrics, such as your running cadence (steps per minute), pace, speed, and workout type. This data is used exclusively to calculate and curate music at the correct tempo (steps per minute converted to beats per minute to find matching songs to your cadence) for your workout. We do not use this data for medical purposes, nor do we sell it to third-party advertisers. We do not use your heart rate data.
- From Apple Music & Spotify (Playback Data): We access your active playback state, library, or playlists to seamlessly queue and control the music that matches your Strava metrics. As stated in Section 3, this data is processed to facilitate playback and is not extracted or stored on our servers to build independent listening profiles.
- Explicit Consent: Because fitness and motion data can be considered sensitive, we only access this information after you have provided explicit, opt-in consent via the authorization screens for each respective service. You can revoke this access at any time within the app settings or via the connected third-party platforms.
- Technical Data: Device identifiers, operating system, and crash logs.
3. Third-Party Music Integrations
Cadence Beats integrates with Apple Music and Spotify to deliver our core algorithm and features. We do not extract, scrape, or store your external analytics, listening history, or metrics from these third-party platforms. All listening data remains natively within the respective Apple Music or Spotify ecosystems according to their privacy terms.
4. How We Use Your Data & Our Lawful Basis
Under UK data protection law, we must have a valid "lawful basis" for processing your data. We use your data in the following ways:
- To create and manage your account: Using your Identity & Contact Data.
- Lawful Basis: Performance of a Contract.
- To curate specific playlists by using your cadence and fitness data from Strava and matching it with specific songs from your listening profile in Spotify / Apple Music.
- Lawful Basis: Performance of a Contract.
- To ensure app stability and troubleshoot bugs: Using your Technical Data (crash logs and device IDs).
- Lawful Basis: Legitimate Interests (to keep the app secure, updated, and functioning correctly).
5. How We Share Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with trusted third parties necessary to operate Cadence Beats:
- Payment Processors: (e.g., Stripe, Apple Pay, Google Pay) to securely handle purchases.
- Cloud Hosting Providers: To securely store your account data.
- Technical Support Tools: Services that automatically capture crash logs so we can fix bugs.
If any of these third parties are based outside the UK, we ensure your data is protected under approved UK data transfer safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an Adequacy Decision).
6. Data Security and Retention
We implement robust technical and organisational security measures to protect your data from unauthorised access or loss. We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for.
- Account Data: Kept for the duration of your active account. If you delete your account, your data is securely erased within 30 days.
